Branding, Print, Motion & Livestream for Santa Rosa's Free Annual Festival.

RSMF

The Railroad Square Music Festival (RSMF) is a free, all-ages outdoor music festival held annually in Santa Rosa's historic Railroad Square district. Since the festival's reboot I have served as its chief creative, overseeing graphic design, web design, and motion graphics across every edition.

Brand Identity

The RSMF identity is built around a blocky, hand-cut 2×2 grid letterform paired with the full festival name in a clean, geometric sans-serif. I designed the core mark and developed a system of lockups - the stacked icon, the horizontal wordmark, and sub-brand extensions like RSMF TV that takes on a new color palette and thematic direction each year while remaining immediately recognizable.

Annual Poster Design

Each year's main poster serves both print and digital applications: 11×17 event posters, 4×6 handbills, social media graphics, and sponsor collateral. The visual direction evolves annually - leaning into spray-paint textures, crumpled paper, halftone, and editorial type - while the logo and typographic system hold the identity together.

Print Collateral

Print deliverables extended beyond the main poster each year: folded brochures, venue maps and schedule posters, stage signs, sponsor decks, handbills, and staff apparel. The brochure below was designed to work as both a sponsor thank-you and a take-home program, combining event copy, sponsor logos, and festival photography.

Web Design & Livestream

I designed and maintained the RSMF website each season, managing content updates, lineup reveals, and sponsor integration.

The livestream broadcasts under the RSMF TV sub-brand - a dedicated channel identity I designed alongside the main festival mark.

For the annual livestream I served as the live operator, designing the full motion graphic package from scratch and running the broadcast live on event day using OBS. The package included:

  • Animated logo stings and opening title sequences
  • Lower-thirds for artist introductions and stage transitions
  • Sponsor bumpers and interstitial overlays
  • A custom visualizer for between-set music playback

The stream ran during the era of shelter in place, and lives on in on the internet.
